Facebook modeling scams targeting area teen girls

Posted: Updated:

Area residents say people pretending to represent a modeling agency are contacting young girls trying to get them to pose nude.

Area residents say someone is claiming to be with The Campbell Agency in Dallas, which is a legitimate company. Terri Kitts' son's girlfriend was being targeted. She says, "It directs you to the Campbell modeling page. But then when you go to fill out the application, it directs you to their own pseudo web site where they can gather your information. Once they gather your information. They keep in contact with you. And eventually what their goal is to have someone come to your house."

They're using their logos and email to convince area teenage girls they are legit. Kitts says, "They started out asking for picture of her hands and feet, which are common model poses. But then they also wanted her to send lingerie. And at that time, as we had suspected that, it was a false agency. And then the very next day. As a news feed on Facebook, another girl had been contacted in town who had prior modeling experience. And called the people out."

These scammers are sending Facebook messages saying they can model from Amarillo or Lubbock and get paid around $1,000, just to start. The Campbell Agency has a warning about these scammers on their web site.

Local modeling companies say this is not how models get hired. Anderson Model & Talent Agency Owner Sheryl Anderson says, "Nobody goes on the Internet to look for models or actors. So anybody that advertises that they're going to get you jobs via the Internet. That's not what they're doing."

Anderson says you can call the Texas Film Commissioners to verify agencies. Police are investigating these cases.
