More details released on shooting at bowling alley

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla_Lawton police are still trying to figure out what led up to a shooting that left two dead and another in the hospital. The victims have been identified as 29 year old Latesha Pettaway, and her boyfriend, 24 year old Ricky McDaniel, who is also the suspected shooter. The woman's brother, Shannon Taylor, was wounded in the attack.

Lawton police say all three were leaving Thunderbird Lanes Bowling Alley at 44th and Cache Road last night around 11 when an argument started. Police believe McDaniel shot his girlfriend and her brother before driving to his mother's home in the 400 block of Northwest 68th where he shot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in Oklahoma City Monday afternoon.

Workers at the bowling alley who didn't want to be identified said the group was asked to leave after they were disruptive. A few minutes later they said a man who had been shot came crawling back in asking for help.

What started as a fun night of bowling ended in crime scene tape, flashing lights, and a team of officers.

"It ended up being two gunshot victims that were there, one female that was pronounced dead," Captain Craig Akard said.

The scene was chaotic as officers tried to juggle a growing crowd in a crime scene.

"It's a difficult situation because you got all kind of people trying to walk up and see what's going on cause they heard the commotion and see the lights."

Even worse, moments after police arrived they got word of a second shooting that happened in a nearby home's driveway.

"The shooting suspect went to another location and took his own life."

While police aren't sure why the shooting happened they say regardless of whose fault it was, it's something no one will ever fully understand.

"You know you're there to bowl and have fun why would you bring a gun?"

Even though three people were shot, police said there was a fourth person who was with the group when the shooting happened. Police say while nothing is nailed down at this time they hope to get more information from that person and other witnesses.

The surviving victim, Shannon Taylor, is still in the hospital. Police say he's expected to pull through.
