As of July 12th there are serious safety concerns for users of Microsoft Windows XP.
Microsoft has ended Service Pack 2 for Windows XP and will discontinue all support for XP in April of 2014. Those still using this operating system will no longer receive security updates, leaving their computers at risk for viruses and malware.
With the upcoming launch of Windows 8, Microsoft is attempting to phase out XP.
The owner or All Star Computer Service in Amarillo, Andrew Brandt, says the best solution is to update to Service Pack 3 or a newer operating system.
Not only are home users on this old system... But also many businesses.
"There actually right now in the world 50% of operating systems are in Windows XP. So, there is going to be a lot of people who are going to have to upgrade. But, we still have two years, it's not like tomorrow," Josh Knapp, Amarillo web developer, says. Knapp also says the biggest set back with still using XP is compatibility with newer technology.
The update to Service Pack 3 for Windows XP is available for free online through Microsoft's website.
