Undated- The wildfire burning north of Indiahoma since Wednesday morning is now 99% contained.
Below is the latest update from Comanche County Emergency Management
As of 2 p.m. the fire is 99 percent
contained. Task forces Jackson County, Tillman County, Kiowa County and the
Oklahoma Forestry Service are conducting burn-outs within the fire lines to
prevent flare ups down the road and working to contain the head of the fire. The
Mobile Command Unit provided by the state has been torn down and sent back to
Oklahoma City. The incident has been turned over to Kiowa County and is no
longer under a unified command with Comanche County and Kiowa County; however
Comanche County is still lending support through the Meers and Medicine Park
Volunteer Fire Departments. Kiowa County has moved the command post to
Saddleback Mountain, where it will work out of a county trailer as a command
post. The Red Cross remains on location, providing food and drinks to the
firefighters.
FIRE: The head of the fire remains active and is currently
one mile wide. It has burned roughly
10,000
acres.
HOMES/EVACUATIONS: 75-100 homes have been put in danger by the fire.
Three homes have been
safely
evacuated.
DAMAGE: The fire has burned roughly 10,000 total acres and
counting. No structures have been
compromised.
INJURIES: There were no injuries through the night. Early
Wednesday a number of firefighters suffered
from heat
exhaustion and were treated and released.
WEATHER: It is currently 98 degrees with a north wind at 0-5
mph. Humidity is sitting at 30
percent.
There is a chance of precipitation this afternoon. Cloud coverage is keeping the
relative
humidity low.
