OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -
Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater is accusing the Pardon
and Parole Board of violating the state's Open Meeting Act.
Prater delivered a
nine-page letter Wednesday to the board's executive director, Terry
Jenks. It alleges the board violated the law when it gave certain prison
inmates early parole consideration.
Prater says the board gave
no notice to the public that it would be considering early parole for
the inmates. Parole was considered under agenda items called "docket
modifications," but Prater says that violates the letter and spirit of
the act.
Prater says some inmates should not have been considered for parole because they hadn't served 85% of their sentences.
Prater says any action taken by the board is invalid. Jenks did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
