Xcel customers asked to conserve power

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - Xcel Energy is asking Texas customers to reduce their power usage at least through the weekend due to increased demand on the state's power grid.

Higher temperatures have elevated demand for electricity across the state, and the summer heat is expected to continue.

You can help ease the strain on the grid and reduce the risk of power failures by turning off lights, computers, and appliances when not in use, and by setting your thermostat to a minimum of 78 degrees.

You can also wait until after 7:00pm to use high-energy appliances when demand for power starts to wane each day.
