Bond denied for Okla. man in dismembered body case

PAULS VALLEY, Okla. (AP) - Bond has been denied for an Elmore City man accused of killing the ex-boyfriend of his girlfriend and then dismembering the corpse.

A Garvin County judge denied bond Tuesday for Justin Hammer, who is charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 7 death of Brandon Duran.

Hammer has pleaded not guilty. His attorney didn't immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

Court documents indicate Hammer told authorities he shot Duran after Duran forced his way into his home and threatened him. Hammer said he panicked and cut up the body, which was placed in cement-filled buckets and thrown into a pond.

Authorities were notified by a man who alleged Hammer asked him to help dispose of the body.

District Attorney Greg Mashburn hasn't decided whether to seek the death penalty.
