West Nile Outbreak

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo,TX - Right now 640 cases of West Nile are reported in Texas, with 23 resulting in death.

This is according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The West Nile experience this year has certainly been different from recent years.

There were only 27 cases around the state last year.

And the 640 cases are only expected to grow.

Doctor James Alexander of the State Health Services Department says there still is no definite reason behind the increase in West Nile, but he believes the drought could have a lot to do with the sudden outbreak.
