NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Gov.
Mary Fallin is scheduled to meet with dozens of emergency managers from
across the state just weeks after a devastating wildfire outbreak.
Fallin will speak to the emergency managers Thursday during a 3-day conference in Norman.
Fallin has requested
federal disaster aid for residents and business owners in Cleveland,
Creek, Oklahoma and Payne counties, where wildfires erupted in recent
weeks. Fallin announced Wednesday that aid for Creek County had been
granted and help for the other counties is still under consideration.
Nearly 680 homes and
businesses were damaged in the fires that began on July 28, including
603 homes that were destroyed. About 85% of the homes damaged or
destroyed weren't insured.
The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management and the Oklahoma Emergency Management Association are sponsoring the conference.
