UPDATED: Armed bank robbery in Friona

UPDATE, 7:15 pm:

At 7:15 pm Friona Police Chief Frank Mooney reported that 22-year-old John Michael Garibay of Friona was arrested by the FBI in connection with the armed bank robbery.

He will be taken to the Randall County jail. Garibay is believed to have acted alone.

A portion of the money has been recovered, but the final amount is still undetermined.

The FBI is still investigating this case.


Friona, TX - The town of Friona was a buzz after an afternoon bank robbery.

Everywhere the robbery was the topic of discussion.

NewsChannel 10's Heather Geller spoke with Police Chief Frank Mooney outside the crime scene at the Friona Texas Federal Credit Union. Mooney confirmed the robbery and informed me no one was harmed. An undetermined amount of money was taken.

Closed signs were taped on doors and ATM machines while investigators were on scene.

Friona schools were on lock down shortly after police were called. Friona Junior High is only two blocks away from the Credit union.

We're told the FBI has been called in and is investigating along with Texas Rangers.

No further details are being released at this time by Friona Police.
