New Mexico peanut farmers predict big harvest

Posted: Updated:

New Mexico - Peanut farmers in New Mexico are predicting a much better harvest than last year for Roosevelt County's prized crop.

Farmers attribute drought and triple digit heat to yields of half the normal amount of last years crop.

However, this year they are predicting about 2,800 to 3,000 pounds per acre.

Farmers say that while the rain has been inconsistent in areas of Roosevelt County it has been timely for the peanut crop.
