Amtrak considers route through Clovis

Posted: Updated:

Clovis -  Amtrak is considering the possibility of rerouting passenger service through Clovis within the next four years.

An Amtrak spokesman says the railroad is working to find funding for deteriorating track along the current route.

Decisions and financial commitments to keep the current route intact will be needed by the end of 2014.

The possible new route would run across northern Oklahoma, the Texas Panhandle and through Clovis.

Passenger train service has not been offered in Clovis since 1971.
