New Mexico considers Medicaid expansion

Posted: Updated:

NEW MEXICO - A recent poll shows more than half of New Mexico's voters back expanding the state's Medicaid rolls to cover 170,000 low-income residents.

The state has one of the nation's highest uninsured rates for health care.

The poll, conducted by the Albuquerque Journal, finds 53% of likely voters in support of an expansion.

The new program would boost eligibility to allow low-income children, seniors, pregnant women and the disabled to sign up for the federal-state health insurance program.
