UPDATE: Duncan police search for pharmacy robber

Posted: Updated:

DUNCAN, Okla_Several bottles of Lortabs, also known as hydrocodone, are missing from a Duncan pharmacy after it was robbed Thursday morning. Police were called to the Star Discount Pharmacy, on Highway 81 in the Chisholm Trail Mall, after employees called 911.workers told police the robber came in around 10 a.m., shortly after the store opened and forced them to the ground before demanding the drugs.

There have been no arrests but fortunately no one was hurt during the robbery, the man took only the drugs and made no attempt to take anything else including money. Police say prescription pills are highly sought after and the driving force behind pharmacy robberies.

It was anything but a usual day at work for Duncan hair stylist David Grey.

"Four cop cars lit the place up, five million people wanted to know what was going on the rumor mill hit."

The event filled day started after something caught his attention.

"As I was doing a clients hair, I looked towards the front window and I saw a guy fumbling in his jacket and I saw him flip up his hoodie and he took off running."

Grey went outside his salon but couldn't see the man, then seconds later saw him run past his shop again.

"At first I thought he was running in the rain or trying to get somewhere fast and then I knew he had done something wrong, I knew that he had robbed something or taken, he was running and going fast like he was trying to get away."

Grey said after police arrived he learned a store in the same complex had been robbed and that money wasn't the target.

"The pharmacist said he had money and the guy didn't want it, he wanted drugs so."

He said sadly the motivation came as no surprise to him or even the police.

"Everyone around here has guns and so I thought I should get a gun and the cop said not unless you're carrying a bucket of Lortabs, if you don't have tabs you don't need a gun here."

The robber ran away with several bottles of the drug that was stuffed into a black backpack. Police say the man never showed a weapon but kept a hand in his hoodie pocket.
