Lawton man's murder trial slated to start

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla. (AP) - The second murder trial of a Lawton man in the death of an alleged robbery partner is scheduled to start.

The Lawton-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/SclVT9 ) that jury selection is to begin Monday in Comanche County District Court in the first-degree murder trial of Jeffery Karr for the Sept. 25, 2009, shooting death of 34-year-old Michael Wermy.

Court and police records say Karr, Wermy and another person were attempting to rob a northwest Lawton home when Wermy was shot in the face and killed when a gun that Karr was using to beat 1 of the robbery victims accidentally fired.

Karr has pleaded not guilty.

A previous trial ended in mistrial when the jury could not reach unanimous agreement on a verdict.
