Hearing set on Hobby Lobby's injunction request

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A judge has scheduled a hearing on Hobby Lobby Stores Inc.'s request for a preliminary injunction that would stop the federal government from requiring the company to provide insurance covering the morning-after pill.

Oklahoma City-based Hobby Lobby sued the federal government over a provision in the federal health care overhaul law that requires companies to provide insurance that covers birth control, including the morning-after pill.

Hobby Lobby argues that providing coverage of the morning-after pill violates the deeply held Christian beliefs of its founders. The company wants an injunction to stop enforcement of the requirement, set to take effect Jan. 1.

Hobby Lobby says it could be fined millions of dollars if it doesn't comply.

The hearing is set for 10 a.m. on Oct. 24 in Oklahoma City.
