SALLISAW, Okla. (AP) -
Authorities say a Sequoyah County deputy suffered scratches but no major
injuries when he was attacked by a pet fox while responding to a
domestic disturbance call.
Sheriff Ron Lockhart says
the fox, named Roxie, attacked Deputy Dwayne Frizzell last week. The
sheriff tells Fort Smith, Ark., television station KHBS (http://is.gd/8zsELe ) that the fox is now in quarantine at a Sallisaw veterinary clinic and is being tested for rabies.
The sheriff says the fox, which lived inside the home as a pet, ran up the deputy's leg and up to his throat.
Lockhart says the fox's
owners had a permit from the Department of Agriculture to rehabilitate
the fox - but that the permit had expired in July.
The sheriff says the fox scratched but did not bite the deputy.
