A convicted killer on the FBI's most wanted list is now awaiting extradition to New Mexico.

The US Marshals Service says Edward Salas was taken into custody Thursday in Chihuahua City, Mexico.

Salas has been on the 15 most wanted fugitives list since December. He was later spotted in Texas but has been on the run ever since.

At the time of his escape from the Curry County Jail in 2008, Salas was serving a life sentence, plus 56 years for his role in the murder of Carlos Perez in 2005.

The victim was killed just one day before his 11th birthday.

Another fugitive in that same murder case was Noe Torres, who escaped at the same time as Salas. He was also caught in Mexico earlier this year.
