Future plans for the High Plains Food Bank

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, Texas - After feeding millions of people over the last 30 years, the High Plains food bank plans to expand even more.

Executive Director Zack Wilson tells me an important hope for their future is for the High Plains food bank to work alongside several other food banks because they all have the same goal, and that's to end hunger.

He would also like to see more development on community gardens so they can help people learn how to grow healthy food for themselves and their families.

He believes it's important for the food bank to help people make healthier choices.

Wilson says, "see this problem that we have with obesity right now, especially around families and individuals who live in poverty. To not only see that, but making better choices at the register that they can afford. And giving more people access to food."

The food bank facility is 4 times larger than it was when it first began serving the panhandle

Over the next several years members of the High Plains food pantry expect that it will continue to grow.
