LAWTON, Okla_A Lawton children's shelter
now has the money to add some much needed amenities to its facility, five brand
new cribs. The Greater Lawton Rotary Club raised $1,000 for the J.
Roy Dunning Children's Shelter so they could buy the beds, the group presented
the check today.
"The Rotary Club
is all about community. Our motto is service above self and when we can
identify a need like this locally that perhaps somebody isn't tackling that
needs to be addressed. We're happy to support something like that and in this
case, we were able to fund the 5 beds through the community as well as the
rotary club."
The club raised
the money through concessions at the 93rd Annual Lawton elementary school track
meet. They say this is the first time they've used the track meet as a
fundraising event but say they plan to use it again in the future.
