"The Daughter of Dawn" premieres tonight

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla_One of the first silent films shot entirely in Oklahoma with an all Native American cast will return to the screen Thursday night.

"The Daughter of Dawn" was filmed in the Wichita Mountains in 1920. It was later screened in Los Angeles and two other venues before disappearing for almost 85 years. Since 2003, local and state historical societies have worked to restore the film. A musical score was also added by the Oklahoma City University orchestra.

Tribal elders and the public will get to see the finished product at Cameron University.

The film starts at 7, but doors to the university theatre open at 6:15. It is free.
