Man arrested in Amarillo murder case

Amarillo police arrest a man accused in the fatal shooting of an Amarillo resident.

24 year old murder suspect David Allen Jeffries is now behind bars facing murder charges. He's accused of shooting an Amarillo man who was found dead lying outside of the Sleepin' Inn Motel located at 810 W. Amarillo Boulevard early morning Friday around midnight.

Amarillo Police believe 37 year old Corey Jamar Black had a gunshot wound in his upper body. An autopsy is being performed in Lubbock this afternoon.

Amarillo Police Department Special Crimes Unit Leuitanent Erick Bohannon says, "As the investigation began, and the investigators began talking to some folks who were there. Information was gathered that was enough to warrant issuing a murder warrant for David Allen Jeffries. We obtained information as to where he might be. So I asked for some assistance from some of our other officers here in the department, the SWAT Team, and Narcotics Unit. And they found him. And arrested him on his warrant."

Officials say he was also in possession of what they believe to be crack cocaine when they found him. So he will also have that charge.
