Feds Swoop Down On Aryan Brotherhood Of Texas Gang

Posted: Updated:

HOUSTON (AP) - Federal prosecutors say four top leaders of the white supremacist Aryan Brotherhood of Texas gang are among the nearly three dozen gang members charged in a 43-page indictment that accuses them of a multitude of offenses, including charges that could result in several of them getting the death penalty.

The 17-count indictment was returned three weeks ago by a federal grand jury in Houston and unsealed Friday.

Authorities say 14 of the people named in the indictment have been arrested, 15 others already were in custody and five are being sought. Four of those charged are identified as generals in the military-style "whites-only" gang founded in Texas prisons in the 1980s.

All are charged with racketeering conspiracy. Some are charged with murder, kidnapping, assault and conspiracy to distribute illegal drugs.
