Okla. Senate panel to hear from open govt. groups Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Advocates for more openness in Oklahoma government are expected to testify before the Senate Rules Committee.

Oklahoma State University professor Joey Senat is among those scheduled to address the panel Tuesday during an interim study at the state Capitol.

Senat is a longtime advocate for more legislative transparency and a member of the board of FOI Oklahoma, a group dedicated to freedom of information in Oklahoma.

Senat is among those who supported a bill last year that would have lifted an exemption for the Legislature to the state's Open Records and Open Meetings acts. The bill cleared a House committee but never received a vote in the full House.

The panel also expects to hear about technology upgrades in the Senate this year to stream meetings and floor work online.
