Polk street shooting settlement

Amarillo, Texas - The family of a man shot in downtown Amarillo receives over 750,000 dollars.

Early last year, Claudio Trujillo was shot several times by officers on Polk street in downtown Amarillo.

Trujillo's wife and parents sued the city of Amarillo and police officers involved, alleging his rights were violated when the officers fired 40 shots at his vehicle.

The city's attorneys claim as Trujillo's vehicle was coming toward officers, the force was necessary to protect the police and the public.

The judge disagreed, settling the suit with Trujillo's parents, wife, and child receiving 760,000.

Over half of the settlement will reportedly go to his seven year old daughter.

An attorney for the officers say the parties have not admitted any wrongdoing.
