DUNCAN, Okla_Stephens County's E-911 mapping system will soon be brought to
its mandated standard and the City of Duncan
could follow suit.
In Monday's
commissioners' meeting commissioners approved hiring Spatial Data Research to
make a list of how the mapping project should be improved to be considered
usable for E-911 purposes. E-911, or enhanced 911, is used to link emergency
callers with the appropriate public resource by locating the source of the
call.
County E-911 Director
Mark Suson said after examining the counties current mapping system they found
it didn't meet standards. He says since 2011 the county and city has been
working with Visual Lease, a company that specializes in mapping for oil needs.
The maps created through E-911 programs are used by various agencies, from post
offices to telephone companies to emergency services, such as fire departments.
He says Spatial Data Research, a 911 mapping company, will be able address
current issues and determine how they can be resolved.
Marlow Police Chief
Jimmy Williams attended the meeting to find out more about Spatial Data Research
and what it will be doing with the county and said the Marlow E-911 program
might enlist the help of the company as well.
