Lawton City Council debated the fate of the Municipal Golf Course

Posted: Updated:

Lawton, Okla._The city council met Tuesday night to debate the future of the Lawton Municipal Golf Course, but it looks like the fate lies mainly in the hands of the airport authority.

Due to a pending change in management at the course at the beginning of next year, the city is trying to sort through its options. The council agreed the course is a valuable asset for the city, but it's hampered by the lack of an effective watering system, and a water source. Getting the appropriate equipment in place will be costly.

At least one citizen expressed interest in becoming a potential owner at Tuesday night's meeting. The council liked that possibility, but again feel no decision can be made until the airport authority has weighed in. City officials will meet with the airport authority in the coming days.
