Faith City Ministries Thanksgiving

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, Texas - Thanksgiving came early for one Amarillo organization.

Hundreds of people enjoyed a holiday feast at Faith City Ministries today.

There were 364 guests this year.

That's over 100 more than at last year's Thanksgiving lunch.

Faith City welcomed area residents to enjoy a good meal, a church service, and a bag full of clothing and other necessities.

The executive director says she was extremely pleased with today's turnout, but has noticed some changes this year.

Jena Taylor says, "I have to admit that usually we have more volunteers than we do guests that come to eat with us. This year that is not the case. We have a lot more guests that came. The ranks are really swelling with women and their children, and couples. It's very interesting. And the biggest rise or the biggest percentage of rise is single women."

She tells us a very generous donor from our area bought brand new coats, gloves, socks, and several other items, so she could give to every one of Faith City's Thanksgiving guests.

There were about 300 bags put together to give to those in need.

She says the goal of today was to make everyone who came feel like they had a place to call home for thanksgiving.

And to her, the goal was accomplished.
