Diesel truck flips over near Hereford, closes Highway 385

Authorities have released the name of the man killed in an accident just outside Hereford Sunday morning.

The Department of Public Safety says just before 11:00, 52 year-old Lyndon Howard was driving a diesel truck south on 385 when his truck collided with a van.

Howard was pronounced dead on scene, and one person in the van suffered unknown injuries.

The cause is under investigation.

Law enforcement across the Panhandle had a very busy day Sunday. A major accident shut down part of Highway 385 between Hereford and Dimmitt for several hours.

Saturday morning, around 10:30, a diesel anchor truck flipped over just three miles south of Hereford.

Officials with Deaf Smith County's Sheriff's Department confirmed there was one fatality.

The roadway was completely closed down for several hours as officials cleaned the diesel up off of the highway.

NewsChannel 10 was told that piece of Highway 385 had been cleaned up and reopened by late Sunday afternoon.
