Fort Sill to conduct prescribed burn Friday

Posted: Updated:

Fort Sill- If you see smoke in the Lawton-Fort Sill area Friday it will likely be from a prescribed burn on post.

Here is the information from Fort Sill:

Fort Sill Fire & Emergency Services has analyzed fire weather patterns and has determined that today presents an optimum window of opportunity to conduct a prescribed burn of nearly 500 acres on Quanah Range (between Cache and Indiahoma) near and inside an impact area.

This burn will clear brush and scrub from the surface in order to do an environmental assessment and is being requested by Fort Sill Range Control. The approximate burn time is 13 hours and will consist of multiple fire agencies participating; 3 brush trucks from Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, 6 firefighters from the City of Wichita Falls Fire Department and 4 brush trucks (8 firefighters) and 1 Chief Officer from Fort Sill F&ES.
