Prescribed burn Wednesday on Fort Sill

Posted: Updated:

Fort Sill- Post officials say they plan to proceed with plans for a prescribed burn Wednesday on Fort Sill. Smoke will be highly visible in the area as a result.

Here is more information from Fort Sill's Public Affairs Office:

Fort Sill Fire & Emergency Services has analyzed fire weather patterns and has determined that today presents an optimum window of opportunity to conduct a prescribed burn on Fort Sill's West Range along South Boundary Road near 38th Street. This fire will be highly visible to motorists and residents along Rogers Lane.

The Fort Sill Fire Department is working in conjunction with the Lawton Fire Department to burn away tall grass and other debris to limit the amount of ‘fuel" a wildfire may have during Southwest Oklahoma's "normal" dry months of January and February.
