Lawton woman indicted for Social Security fraud

Posted: Updated:

Lawton- A Lawton woman is facing several years in federal prison after prosecutors charged her with 15 counts of fraud.

The U.S. Attorneys Office says Sandra Tipton received Social Security payments from the government after her husband passed away in 2003. However, about six months later she married another man, which meant she was no longer eligible for the benefits.

Prosecutors say for almost nine years, Tipton lied when asked if she had re-married. During that time, the government says she received over $81,000 in Social Security payments she was not entitled to.
