Man charged with second-degree murder of Lawton woman

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON Okla_ A Lawton man now faces charges of second degree murder in connection to the October shooting death of Tanya Zachary.

According to court records Stephone Carter shot and killed Zachary during a botched robbery on October 27th. Earlier this week, police announced Carter was in jail, initially booked on an unrelated case on assault and battery charges.

While in jail, Carter allegedly admitted to shooting and killing Zachary in a southwest Lawton apartment, after police developed him as a suspect. Police believe Carter conspired to rob the actual apartment tenants and Zachary the night she was killed.

In addition to the second degree murder charge, Carter also faces one charge of conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery with a weapon, and possession of firearm after felony conviction.
