OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Attorneys for both sides in
Hobby Lobby Stores Inc.'s lawsuit challenging the federal health care
law are asking a judge to stay proceedings as a federal appeals court
considers the case.
Hobby Lobby and the federal government filed a
motion Monday asking a federal judge to stay proceedings until the 10th
U.S. Court of Appeals weighs in.
Hobby Lobby is asking the 10th Circuit to block
part of the law that requires the arts and crafts company to provide
insurance coverage for emergency contraception pills.
Last month, U.S. District Judge Joe Heaton rejected
Hobby Lobby's request for a preliminary injunction to stop the
government from enforcing the law. The judge ruled that Hobby Lobby is
not a religious organization and should be subject to the mandate,
taking effect Jan. 1.
