Lawton JROTC programs give away toys

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON Okla_ Members of the local junior ROTC are doing their part to spread Christmas cheer.

Students from all three high schools in Lawton handed out around 250 toys to about 150 young children today. The event has been going on for nearly 20 years. This year, it was Eisenhower's turn to host the event.

Eisenhower High School JROTC Cadet James Taylor said he likes to see the gleams of joy on the children's faces. "It's not always about an XBOX or a Playstation 3, but it's about a little dinosaur or a little car. It's about a kid saying, ‘I got a racecar, I got a toy car.' It's good to see the smile on the kids' faces."

Taylor said the tradition is important to motivate his cadets to become better citizens. All of the toys were chosen and donated by the cadets.
