Courthouse accepts donations for Marie Detty, New Directions

Posted: Updated:

COMANCHE CO., Okla_ Comanche County's Marie Detty and New Directions could use your help this Christmas, too.

Courthouse employees are working hard to fill donation boxes with canned goods, hygiene products and even baby formula. The boxes waiting to be filled are on the third floor of the courthouse.

Treasury Office Worker Lyndsey Billen said, "We're just trying to collect anything you would use in your daily life, because women and children come and they have nothing with them. So, anything can definitely help."

County Treasurer Barbara Burk said many of the items they need are things most of us take for granted. Marie Detty and New Directions are both non-profits. Marie Detty provides a wealth of services: from helping juveniles in trouble with the law and parenting classes, to an emergency youth shelter and gang intervention.

New Directions is the spousal abuse department of Marie Detty and provides a safe place for abuses spouses and their children.

You can help fill the boxes with everything from LATS bus passes and cleaning supplies to paper towels and Christmas gifts for children.
