LAWTON, Okla.
This holiday season, local business Pippin Brothers promised a deserving family a heater for the winter months and Saturday made good on that promise.
Hundreds of people wrote letters on behalf of families in need. The letters were narrowed down to three, and then one winner, the Elkins family from Geronimo.
Michael Elkins grandmother-in law wrote the letter on their behalf. He agreed to send it but never dreamed his family would be the one chosen.
He said funds were tight so the house was always cold. He said the heater would be a Christmas present they would all enjoy.
"You talk about a miracle, just out of nowhere. That was truly a blessing!" Michael Elkins said.
Elkins said seeing his daughter light up when Pippin Brothers arrived was something that was special to the entire family.
"She sees mommy and daddy work pretty hard. Stuff don't come to often, and she's seen it come and she's excited for us," Elkins said.
This is the second year Pippin Brothers have given away a heater for free and said it's a holiday tradition they planned to continue.
