Buckner's Amarillo hosts event for child foster programs

Posted: Updated:

Many around the area gathered to get into the Christmas spirit Saturday as Buckner's Amarillo hosted an event for some 200 kids around the area.

Buckner's International is a group that supports programs to help orphans, vulnerable families and children. Saturday, kids from Bruce Ford Center, Family Place and Foster Care had breakfast and a visit with Santa out at plane hanger near River Falls. One volunteer said she's worked with Buckner's for years and is glad they group could come together here to show a little love to area children.

"When I moved here, I still wanted to be involved with Buckner's," said Shelly Turner, volunteer for Buckner's. "And we felt like this a way we can make a very special Christmas for these kids through Bruce Ford Center Family Place and Foster Care."

Santa flew in on a helicopter, and in true Christmas fashion, kids also built their own gingerbread houses. The Rolling Hills Riding Club also donated it's horses for the kids to ride.
