Power Lines Come Crashing Down on Altus Driver

Posted: Updated:

ALTUS, Okla._

An Altus driver escaped serious injury Saturday afternoon after live power lines were reported to have crashed down on his pickup truck.

First responders said the driver was entangled in power lines after witnesses said they saw the pickup truck swerve to avoid hitting a second driver on Highway 283 just south of the Martha Y intersection, when the pickup rolled off the highway and came to a rest on the support cables of a power pole.

Blair first responders, the Altus Fire Department, Jackson County E-M-S and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the tension of the weight of the truck snapped the power pole in half bringing down power lines with it.

The driver was able to crawl out of the cab and escape with minor injuries.
