Homicide under investigation in Vernon, TX

Posted: Updated:

Vernon, Texas- A Texoma city is in shock after learning a man was likely beaten to death.

Vernon police say they found 45-year-old Michael Jerome Ridge's body in a home early Wednesday morning. Investigators believe he was killed after being hit with a blunt object.

"He was energetic, he was always hyper," said an acquaintance Shanae Favors. "He didn't fool with nobody, you know what I'm saying? It's life, but you don't expect it to hit home. It's just like a nightmare. I just wish I'd wake up, but it's actually reality."

Within about 20 minutes of finding Ridge's body, police arrested 19-year-old Ezekiel Bell at another home in Vernon. Right now he's being held in the Wilbarger County jail on a murder charge.
