The Oaks Development Company raises nearly $1,300 for kids

Posted: Updated:

Lawton_The Oaks Development Christmas Parade of Homes in Oak Ridge was a success raising nearly $1,300 in 3 hours for Lawton Food for Kids.

Nearly 250 people had the opportunity to take a rare look inside 3 private luxury residences and one dream home all decked out for the holidays. Guests were able to enjoy 15 different themed Christmas trees ranging from a Waterford crystal tree to a rustic French country tree. Santa Claus was present and horse and carriage rides were offered to view all of the beautiful lights.

The proceeds raised will provide 6 children with backpacks full of nutritious food every weekend for an entire school year. Food for Kids provides chronically hungry elementary school children with backpacks full of nutritious food to take home over the weekends and on school holidays.

Without this program many of these children would have little or nothing to eat aside from the free meals they receive at school. Studies show that after entering this program many children perform better in school.

Susan Nance, wife of builder Ron Nance and Lawton Public Schools educator for 32 years states that it is "incredibly moving to watch a child get so excited over their backpack of food. The look on their faces makes you truly want to do what you can to help this program". Many of these children are even taking food home for their little brothers and sisters. This shows what a vital resource this program is for many of these children.

Over the past 4 years, The Oaks Development Company has raised over $21,000 for Food for Kids from events ranging from dream home tours to their recent Christmas parade of homes. These proceeds have provided over 100 children with backpacks full of nutritious food to take home every weekend for an entire school year.

Builder Ron Nance continues to give back to the community as the builder of the Westbrook project for ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition and recipient of the Lawton Homebuilders "Builder of the Year" award two years in a row.
