Residents preparing homes for winter storm

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON Okla_ The threat of winter storms looming in Southwest Oklahoma, and residents are filling the hardware stores to prepare for the worst.

Kenneth Easton said Easton's Ace Hardware store has been busy with people buying things to help prevent storm damage to their homes.

Easton offered advice to those who may not be familiar with living with harsh winter conditions.

"Make sure that all your water hoses are disconnected from the house, even if you have a freeze proof faucet. You can get busted pipes. If you're going to be leaving town, make sure you leave the heat on in the house.

Have a neighbor or somebody help you in case there's anything that could do damage to the house."

Easton said even with the possibility of a bad storm, most shoppers are thankful for some type of moisture to fall after such a long, harsh drought.

However, he said not everyone was in his store today to protect their homes. Some were there preparing to enjoy the possible white Christmas.

"We can have a lot of fun with a storm like this," Easton said, "Especially if we get some snow. Sleds have been very popular today in the store, and I'm very pleased with the attitude of the people."
