Okla. pharmacies to track medicine purchases

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY Okla_ Starting Tuesday, the amount of cold medicine you purchase from the pharmacy will be tracked by a multi-state registry.

It's all a part of an effort to crackdown on methamphetamine. A pharmacist will enter the names of any customer purchasing a product containing pseudoephedrine into the registry.

Pseudoephedrine is an ingredient used in manufacturing methamphetamine. The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics said meth cooks have exploited the in-state registry by traveling to multiple states to buy the meth precursor.
