Lawton man charged with flooding city jail

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON Okla_ A Lawton man awaiting trial for murder is now accused of yet another crime, and this one happened while he was behind bars.

Stephone Carter is now accused of flooding the Lawton City Jail; he was already in the jail on murder charges. Carter was in the city jail over the holidays, being held in the brutal murder of Tanya Zachary on October 27th.

According to court records, Carter was charged today with stuffing the toilet in his cell with toilet paper and underwear until it overflowed on Christmas Day. It flooded a couple of cells and the downstairs area where detectives were working.

Police said they did let a couple of inmates go who were being held on minor offenses because of the flooding.

Carter is now being charged with criminal destruction of property.
