Share the Road preps for annual racquetball tournament

As drivers in Amarillo remember to abide by a new ordinance and put down their cell phones while driving, Share the Road Amarillo also wants to remind drivers to avoid distracted driving all together.

The group was founded in 2010 after the death of a local bicyclist when she was hit by a car.  Now, Share the Road is preparing for it's 3rd Annual Racquetball Tournament. Board members say it's one of the largest fundraiser's for this non-profit organization and a great way to raise money to help them continue their mission to improve and promote the safety of cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists alike.

"Helps us with the educational efforts that we do here in the area including a partnership that we've developed with the Texas Department of Transportation," said board member Ken Graham. "We have worked with TxDOT to place several Share the Road bicycle signs outside the city limits. When they see a Share the Road bicycle sign that more than likely they will also see a bicycle rider riding in the same direction that they're traveling."

That tournament will be held at Gold's Gym on Blackburn on January 18th through the 20th.
