Chili cook off raises money for area Make-A-Wish children

Posted: Updated:

Some might say nothing suits the cold weather like a bowl of chili, making Saturday the perfect day for the Annual Tri-State Fair Chili Cook Off benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Businesses and other individuals packed the Rex Baxter building to show off their best chili recipe. The event included chili-tasting, door prizes, a silent auction and even some live music. All the money raised during Saturday's cook off will stay right here in the Texas Panhandle to help grant wishes for Make-A-Wish children in our area.

"We have a lot of kids that are in the process or have been referred or are getting approved and things like that but over the past year we've granted a lot of wishes," said Missy Macon with Make-A-Wish. "It's because of events like this and people like this that come out and they donate their time and their money so that we are able to do that."

Last year, the group raised more than $20,000 during the chili cook off for the Make-A-Wish foundation.
