Longtime LPD Officer Retires

Posted: Updated:

Lawton, Okla._One of Lawton's longtime police officers is retiring. Captain Ralph Szatkowski has been on the force for 26 years.

His colleagues held a going-away ceremony for him Tuesday afternoon. He said he'll miss the camaraderie at the station, and enjoyed serving the people of Lawton, but felt like it was just the right time for him to go.

"It's pretty gratifying. Makes you feel like you accomplished something in your lifetime. I've been a police officer longer than I haven't been, so, it's gonna take a little bit of getting used to" Szatkowski said.

He also said he's looking forward to spending time with his family, including his father, who is also a retired police officer. His final day on the job is Wednesday.
