CACHE Okla_ The town of Cache's Maloy
Park won't look the same
in a few months. It's about to undergo a major rebuild, thanks to the Masonic
lodge.
"It's in
dire need of being replaced," James Kurth said. "The kids in the community need
a place to go. It gives them the opportunity to get off the couch and fight
obesity; that's a big problem today. Get them out there, encourage them, entice
them to come out to the park and play."
Today, the
lodge received the final check needed to start the build for the park which is
named after a former mason. It was a check for $3,300 from Cotton Electric.
Spokesman Bryce Hooper says it was all thanks to "Operation Roundup".
"For
instance, if your bill is 11.50, we'll round it up to 12," Hooper said. "The 50
cents is deposited into an account and given to charity."
All those coins
added up to more than $3,000. Kurth said the idea to reconstruct the park began
a couple years ago, and they've raised about $26,000 to get it done.
He said he
expects to start building on March 30th.
