City to foot the bill for dead tree removal

Posted: Updated:

Lawton, Okla_ The Lawton City Council voted Tuesday night to dip into the emergency fund to pay for the cost of cutting down hundreds of dead trees on city property.

They selected two out of town contractors, which have both worked together before, for this project. The bid came in about $65,000 below the $179, 000 budgeted for it. The city will notify the property owner that a tree has been targeted and the owner will then have ten days to contest it.

The measure was approved on a 5-2 vote with Councilmen Doug Wells and Richard Zarle voting against it.
