Water main repair causes traffic jam on Gore Blvd.

Posted: Updated:

Lawton_The water main break that sent students and staff at Eisenhower Middle School home early Thursday is fixed.

A Lawton Public Works official says crews spent about fourteen hours repairing the leaking pipe on Gore Boulevard and Northwest 58th Street.

But they still have work to do repairing the road, so there's going to be a bit of a traffic jam near the school for several days.

Crews have re-routed eastbound traffic onto the westbound side for about three blocks, squeezing four lanes of traffic into two.

Afsaneh Jabbar, of the Lawton Public Works Department,  says there have been eight other breaks around the city in the last few days. She blames a combination of old pipes and the weather.

"The ground movement, because it has been so dry and all of the soil water has evaporated, there is no water in between, so the consolidation of the soil puts stress on the pipe,"  Jabbar said.

Jabbar says the roadwork in front of Eisenhower Middle School should be finished sometime next week.
